Autumn is my favorite season, and Halloween is a large part of why I love it. We eat caramel apples, go to haunted houses, tell ghost stories. There are hayrides and seasonal coffees. Plus, pumpkin patches! It’s the best time of year in my book, but so much of these activities involve social interaction. In a quarantine, social-distancing world, it isn’t the most feasible. (Thanks COVID-19.) That doesn’t mean we can’t get dressed up and have a horror movie marathon though.

Last year, around this time, I released a listicle with 30 scary movies to watch (click here to read it). My little spooky-loving, witchy heart couldn’t resist writing another one. Snuggle under a blanket and get ready for your pulse to race. Here are 30 more frightening, spine-chilling flicks to watch. It’s Halloween time!

1. The Amityville Horror (1979)

2. Get Out (2017)

We all know how fond I am of cheesy Blumhouse Productions horror films, but this one 100% deserves the praise. Jordan Peele’s directorial debut was a home run.

3. Casper (1995)

Casper, the friendly ghost,
The friendliest ghost you know.
Though grown-ups might
Look at him with fright,
The children all love him so.

4. Poltergeist (1982)

5. Vampires Suck (2010)

If you want a good chuckle off a vampire film parody, this movie evokes Halloween “monsters” while keeping the mood lighthearted.

6. It Follows (2015)

7. Sleepy Hollow (1999)

8. The Good Neighbor (2016)

A prank gone really, really wrong!

9. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

How can you resist this cult classic film? Part of the joy of it is interjecting call outs. Get on a discord channel with your friends, and take part in a mini-theatrical Rocky Horror.

10. HAUNT (2019)

11. Tragedy Girls (2017)

This film is full of campy, dark humor. It’s a Halloween movie that I could probably even convince my partner, who hates anything scary, to watch.

12. The Wicker Man (1973)

If you’re going to watch The Wicker Man, you have to watch the OG film.

13. Look Away (2018)

14. Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)

15. Gremlins (1984)

DO NOT FEED GREMLINS AFTER MIDNIGHT! I REPEAT, DO NOT FEED GREMLINS AFTER MIDNIGHT!!!

16. Hell Fest (2019)

This movie will make you question whether or not to ever go to a haunted house where a liability waiver is required.

17. I Am Not A Serial Killer (2016)

This movie takes a unique approach to a thriller. The would-be serial killer is resisting, but he has to solve the cases because everyone believes he did it.

18. Night of the Living Dead (1968)

19. Goodnight Mommy (2015)

20. Emelie (2016)

This film is a parent’s worst nightmare. I know after watching it, all I wanted to do was grab ahold of my kiddos and never let them go.

21. The House On The Left (1972)

22. When A Stranger Calls (1979)

You’ll want to check all of your closets and rooms before and after watching this film. Thank goodness for caller ID.

23. The Birds (1963)

24. Crawl (2019)

This newer movie is reminiscent of Jaws. It makes me question whether I’d ever be willing to live in Florida.

25. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)

If you enjoy silent films, this 100 year old gem is the perfect choice for Halloween. Spooky, but not scary.

26. Creep (2015)

27. Prince of Darkness (1987)

28. Train to Busan (2016)

This Korean horror film will give you nightmares for days, especially if you use public transportation. I’m not typically scared by zombie films, but these are the kind of zombies that are gory, fast, terrifying, and homicidal.

29. You’re Next (2013)

30. An American Werewolf in London (1981)

This movie builds a simultaneously scary and hilarious atmosphere. Is it kitschy? Absolutely. But it’s a masterpiece.
